His Excellency Jean-Luc Dehaene Receives Award from the Edmond Israel Foundation The Edmond Israel Foundation today hosted a conference attended by a distinguished international audience of over 600 people, including high level government officials, ambassadors and senior executives. At the conference, H.E. Mr Jean-Luc Dehaene, the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Belgium, received the Edmond Israel Foundation - Vision for Europe Award. The Award, a sculpture by Mr Lucien Wercollier, is entitled 'Aspiration'. In the presence of H.E. Mr Jacques Santer, President of the European Commission and H.E. Mr Jean-Claude Junker, Mr André Lussi, Chairman of the Edmond Israel Foundation, provided a vivid insight into 'The Euro and its impact on European and World Markets'. In presenting three benefits of synergy arising as the result of Monetary Union, efficient wealth creation and a more competitive Europe, he alluded to the emergence of the Euro as the 'new world currency'. He described the challenges ahead and said that cooperation was needed, concluding that 'we owe it to our children, and to future generations'. Mr Edmond Israel described the rationale for the award and explained why H.E. Mr Dehaene was such a worthy recipient of the Award. The Edmond Israel Foundation is a non-profit making organisation, established in 1990 to undertake or support any activities concerned with the research or development of the capital markets. Mr Israel presented the Award and in response, H.E. Mr Dehaene delivered a visionary speech entitled, 'La construction européenne à l'aube du 21ème siècle: un nouvel élan', describing the evolution of European Union and a new impetus for change.
