Edmond Israel Foundation Announces New Board Members The Edmond Israel Foundation today announced that Dr Horst Günter Krenzler and Dr Albert Bressand have been nominated as directors of the Edmond Israel Foundation. Dr Krenzler has had a long and distinguished career and is currently Of Counsel with Freshfields Deringer, Brussels and Governor on the Board of the Asia/EU Foundation (ASEF). He has held a number of positions within the European Commission, including Deputy Secretary General and Political Director of the European Commission, Director General for External Relations and Special Advisor to the European Commission. He is a German national, married with two daughters. Dr Bressand is Managing Director of Promethée, the Paris based think-tank ranked in the world’s top twenty by The Economist, a member of the Board of Economists of Time magazine and a fellow of the World Economic Forum in Davos. Previously, Dr Bressand served as economic advisor to the French Foreign Minister as deputy director of the French Council on Foreign Relations and as member of the World Bank’s policy planning staff in Washington D.C. He is a French national, married with two sons and two daughters. Members of the Board of the Foundation include its Chairman, Mr André Lussi and other directors, John Gilchrist, Dr Helmut Haussmann, Oscar Lewisohn, Robert Massol and Dr Thomas Rabe. The Foundation is a non-profit making organisation dedicated to the research and promotion of ideas of cultural, scientific, political and economic importance in the context of Europe. Its aim is to work both within the framework of a changing Europe and to advance European thinking elsewhere in the world, thereby making a high quality contribution to the ongoing debates of our times and exploring themes of freedom, social responsibility and cultural identity. It aims to support and promote research and study and provide financial assistance and scholarship to promising individuals. Apart from commissioning studies, such as The Proposed Directive on Harmonisation of Taxation of Interest Payments published in January 1999, the Foundation presents the 'Vision for Europe' award annually in recognition of outstanding achievement and contribution to Europe. The 1998 recipient was HE Mr Jean-Claude Juncker, Prime Minister of Luxembourg and previous recipients were HE Mr Helmut Kohl, the former Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, HE Mr Jean-Luc Dehaene, the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Belgium and HE Mr Jacques Santer, President of the European Commission, the first recipient of the award. ![]() |
